Fatal multi-vehicle accident on the Coastal Highway: one woman killed, 6 injured
The woman's death in the accident near Atlit was declared at the scene. A man was seriously injured and five others were evacuated to Hillel Yaffe Hospital in light condition. The paramedic and medic described a difficult scene: "One of the vehicles was crushed, another overturned." In less than 24 hours: five dead in traffic accidents.
A woman was killed this morning, Sunday, in a fatal multi-vehicle accident on Highway 2 near Atlit, involving four private cars. A MADA team declared her death at the scene and evacuated six injured people to Hillel Yaffe Hospital in Hadera, including a man in his 60s whose condition is serious. The condition of the other injured, according to MADA, is defined as light.
The police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the accident. "Police officers and traffic accident investigators of the Coastal District are at the scene to investigate the circumstances," it was stated.
MADA paramedic Netanel Menachem and MADA medic Linoy Azulay said:
"One of the vehicles was completely crushed and another overturned on its side, and the rest of the vehicles had body damage. Inside the crushed vehicle, a woman in her 50s was trapped, unconscious, without a pulse and without breathing, with very severe injuries to her body. We performed medical checks, but unfortunately, her injuries were significant and we had no choice but to declare her death."
"In the overturned vehicle, a man in his 60s was trapped while conscious. During the rescue operations, we provided him with life-saving medical treatment, and after he was extricated, we evacuated him to the hospital in serious condition."
The woman killed in the accident this morning is the fifth fatality in traffic accidents in the last 24 hours. Yesterday, two people were killed in a serious accident near Karmiel - Srour Amar (53) from Hurfeish and Rian Asad (17) from Kasra. Another man was seriously injured in that accident, and in two other fatal accidents during Saturday, a 93-year-old man was killed at the Ra'anana junction, and a foreign worker was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Eshkol.
According to the National Road Safety Authority website, almost 300 people have been killed in traffic accidents this year. Although the number of fatalities is still about 5% lower compared to the same period last year, professionals warn that the improvement trend recorded at the beginning of the year is eroding. At the current rate, they say, 2026 could end with a number of fatalities similar to that recorded in 2025 - when 459 people were killed on the roads, the highest figure in more than two decades.
