"Received tens of thousands of shekels": 16-year-old charged with throwing grenades at a building in Ma'alot-Tarshiha
Police have solved two incidents involving fragmentation grenades thrown at a residential building. Investigators suspect a 19-year-old accomplice drove the 16-year-old minor to the scene amid a criminal conflict.
Northern District police officers have solved two incidents of fragmentation grenades being thrown at a residential building in Ma'alot-Tarshiha. Today, Thursday, indictments will be filed at the Haifa District Court against two suspects: a 16-year-old minor and a 19-year-old resident of Nahariya.
The investigation began on May 12 following a report of a grenade attack that caused extensive damage to the structure. A few days later, a second grenade was thrown at the same building.
The case was assigned to the Kinneret District Anti-Crime Unit, which launched an extensive investigation using technological assets and forensic evidence collected at the scenes.
According to the investigation, the 19-year-old suspect drove the minor on a scooter to the residential building, where the minor threw the grenades at the occupied structure. Police believe the motive behind the attacks is a conflict between criminal elements.
Evidence also indicates that the minor allegedly received tens of thousands of shekels for carrying out the attacks, sharing a portion of the money with the 19-year-old in exchange for driving him to the scene.
The prosecution is expected to file indictments today, alongside a request to remand both suspects in custody until the end of legal proceedings.
The Northern District Police stated that efforts to combat violent crime continue through multiple channels, including the seizure of weaponry, intelligence-led covert operations, and strict enforcement against those involved in violent offenses.
