Stabbed his wife, fled with family help — and was caught after a manhunt
A 34-year-old East Jerusalem resident is suspected of repeated domestic violence, culminating in a stabbing attack at his wife's family home in Dura. He was arrested a day later, and prosecutors have now filed a statement of intent to indict.
The police have completed their investigation into a 34-year-old resident of East Jerusalem, suspected of violently attacking his wife on several occasions. In the latest incident, he allegedly stabbed her with a sharp object at her family's home in the town of Dura, near Hebron. Today (Sunday), a prosecutor's statement was filed against him in preparation for the filing of an indictment in the coming days.
The incident occurred on July 25, when police received a report of severe domestic violence at the woman's family home. She was evacuated to a hospital in Jerusalem with several penetrating wounds to her upper body, and her condition was defined as moderate.
The investigation revealed that the woman was staying at her family's home in Dura that day when her husband, with whom she had been in conflict recently, arrived at the scene. According to the investigation, during a confrontation, the husband pulled out a sharp object and struck her several times in the upper body, after which he fled the scene in his vehicle.
It also emerged that this was not the first incident of violence between the two. According to investigators, a few days earlier, the husband had attacked his wife during a vacation in the north of the country, and later at their home in East Jerusalem.
Following the incident in Dura, the police launched a manhunt for the suspect. After almost a day, detectives from the Hebron station, with the assistance of the Shuafat station and technological means, located and arrested him. Several of his family members were also questioned on suspicion of aiding and obstructing the investigation.
Upon completion of the investigation, a prosecutor's statement was filed today regarding the intent to file a serious indictment through the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office. The court extended his remand by an additional four days, until Wednesday, August 12.
