A 30-year-old woman was arrested on Saturday in India on suspicion of murdering her husband during an argument at their home, after allegedly attacking him with a pressure cooker and then strangling him. The court has extended her detention until July 29.
The incident occurred on July 19 in the city of Badlapur in western India. According to investigators, Sunita Devi confronted her 35-year-old husband, Hara Ram Singh, who was bedridden due to a disability. The dispute reportedly began after Singh failed to comply with his wife's repeated requests to buy her a sari, a traditional Indian garment.
During the altercation, Devi allegedly struck her husband on the head with a pressure cooker and then strangled him. Shortly thereafter, neighbors entered the home and found Singh unresponsive.
Police stated that at the beginning of the investigation, there was an attempt to mislead both neighbors and officers regarding the circumstances of the incident. However, the couple's 7-year-old son, who was present in the house at the time, provided information that investigators say was crucial to advancing the case.
Autopsy findings have strengthened the suspicions against the woman: according to Indian media reports, severe head injuries were found on Singh's body, and the cause of death was determined to be strangulation.
Following these findings, the police have opened a murder investigation, and the case against Devi remains ongoing.
