90 Moroccans put on trial following infiltration, including 5 minors

Juan Jesus Vivas, governor of the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in Morocco, told the European Parliament on Thursday that about 100 people died during the infiltration of the Spanish border by illegal migrants last week. Vivas added that between 3,000 and 5,000 migrants remain in Ceuta.

According to Spanish media, about 90 people are on trial in Morocco, with authorities in Rabat having already filed indictments against 86 of them. At least 34 people, including five minors, have been charged with offenses related to organizing illegal border crossings or illegally transporting people. It is important to note that the Moroccan government and its judicial system have not yet released official data.

The Spanish city of Ceuta in North Africa, one of the only two land borders of the European Union with Africa, experienced a massive infiltration of illegal migrants over the weekend. According to Spanish authorities, between 50,000 and 60,000 people crossed the border, and as mentioned, 100 of them lost their lives during the journey.

These illegal migrants from Morocco caused the land border to collapse, while at the same time thousands of others swam and entered Spain by sea. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez deployed the army in an attempt to stop the infiltration, and after nearly 72 hours announced that most of the illegal migrants had been returned to Moroccan territory.
