Officers from the Lahav 433 unit arrested three former players suspected of operating a match-fixing and illegal betting scheme in the women's Premier League.
Officers of the National Unit for Combating Economic Crime (YALEK) within Lahav 433 arrested three suspects on Thursday — two men and a woman. They are suspected of operating a mechanism for match-fixing and betting in the women's football Premier League in exchange for monetary payments, with the aim of influencing match results and generating financial profits.
The suspects, all former league players, were brought in for questioning to determine the scope of the activity, the identities of those involved, the methods used to fix matches, and the amount of money exchanged. The investigation by the Sports Bribery and Betting Division began several months ago and is being conducted in cooperation with the Israel Football Association.
Approximately three months ago, an active footballer from a top-tier Israeli league team was arrested on suspicion of match-fixing, large-scale illegal betting, money laundering, and tax offenses committed with accomplices. The investigation revealed that the player had been betting systematically and illegally, behavior inconsistent with his status as a top-tier professional.
The recent arrests were carried out by the Sports Betting Division of Lahav 433 as part of an investigation into a criminal group from Migdal HaEmek. This operation, conducted in coordination with the Football Association, follows a series of arrests made last week. Police stated that further questioning of other involved parties is expected.
