20 kg of drugs and 36 packages: smuggling attempt into Jordan thwarted
Four suspects threw drug packages across the border into Jordan and attempted to flee, but were apprehended during a joint operation by the police and the IDF. This incident is part of a series of smuggling attempts involving millions of shekels' worth of narcotics thwarted along the eastern border in recent months.
Four suspects were arrested on Sunday on suspicion of attempting to smuggle approximately 20 kg of hashish from Israel into Jordan via the eastern border. According to investigators, the four individuals arrived at the fence area and threw 36 packages containing narcotics over to the Jordanian side.
The suspects were identified during a joint operation involving fighters from the Northern District Border Unit, the MATILAN unit of the Judea and Samaria Border Police, and soldiers from the "Lions of the Jordan" battalion.
After throwing the packages, the suspects fled the area, but security forces operating at the scene apprehended them and seized the packages on the Jordanian side.
A series of smuggling attempts on the Jordanian border
Among the four detainees are two brothers, residents of the North (one of whom is a minor), and two residents of the South. The Nazareth Magistrate's Court granted the police's request to extend their detention: three suspects will remain in custody until August 30, and the fourth until August 26.
This interception joins a series of smuggling attempts prevented along the eastern border in recent months. According to police data, hundreds of kilograms of various drugs worth millions of shekels have been seized.
Earlier this month, the Northern District Attorney's Office filed an indictment against three residents of the village of Kfar Manda. According to the charges, they established contact with drug suppliers and obtained 50 kg of hashish, valued at millions of shekels, intended for transfer to Jordan.
