15,000 percent in a day: a 'unicorn' in the cloud or a colorful bubble?

A new coin jumped by an unusual rate within hours, but behind the impressive number hides a small market with limited liquidity. Is this a project that might continue to grow, or a surge that actually illustrates the risk in the crypto market?

The crypto market is used to sharp fluctuations, but even in it, it is hard to ignore a jump of more than 15 thousand percent within a day. The UNICORN coin, which was recently launched on the Robinhood network, recorded an unusual increase of about 16,010% in the last day, according to DEX Screener data. The coin is currently trading around 0.001 dollars, and its reported market cap stands at only about one million dollars.

Data shows how much the impressive number should be examined with caution. The trading pair of UNICORN and HOOD was created less than a day before the data collection, and about 20 thousand transactions appeared in the trading log in 24 hours, with a total volume of about 8.3 million dollars. At the same time, the liquidity, meaning the amount of money actually available for trading, stood at only about 117 thousand dollars.

The gap between the trading volume and the liquidity is especially important. In a large and established coin, millions of dollars of trading usually take place in a much deeper market. Here, it is a very young project, and therefore even not particularly large sums can significantly affect the price. In simple words: when there is not much money waiting to be bought and sold, a few relatively large transactions can quickly jump the price, but the same phenomenon can also work in the opposite direction.

According to the data appearing on DEX Screener, the coin's price reached levels significantly higher than the price at which it traded at the beginning of the way in a short time. The site also shows 2,706 traders in the last day, when the number of purchases and sales is almost balanced: about 10,500 purchases versus 9,944 sales. These data point to active activity, but do not prove by themselves that the project has a stable economic base or that the rise can continue.

UNICORN is presented on social networks as a new project, and its online presence is still relatively limited. In such a case, it is difficult to compare it to older coins where there are years of trading data, a large community, and a known business infrastructure. Also, the very fact that a new coin reaches a value of about one million dollars does not mean that this amount is actually in the treasury or that it is possible to sell all the coins at the displayed price. Market cap is a calculation based on the coin's price and the supply of coins, and not necessarily the amount of money invested in the project.

The story of UNICORN illustrates one of the most prominent characteristics of the crypto market: alongside large and established projects, new coins are created every day that can become a phenomenon on the network within hours. A jump of thousands of percent sounds like an exceptional opportunity, but when it comes to a coin with a short trading history and limited liquidity, it may also reflect an exceptional risk. For investors, the important question is not only how much the coin has risen but how much the rise can be explained by real demand.
